Sudoku Packs 2 HD for iPadSudoku Packs 2 HD for iPad (and iPhone) by Thumb Wizards makes me want to learn how to play the darn strategy game. Yes, I get the gist of it, but the part of the brain that is good at number crunching isn’t well versed in the language of mathematics. That’s why I absolutely the love the fact that they have a trainee section.

Of course, it’s not just for the amateur. Sudoku Packs 2 HD includes 600 handpicked Sudoku puzzles throughout six progressive difficulty packs. But wait, there’s more… the iPhone version contains an additional 600 unique puzzles. So veterans will be just as impressed as we novices. Plus the game is created by the developers of the original Sudoku Puzzle Packs, which has almost 1,700 4-star reviews.

If you are a novice, then you might need a few points on the goal of Sudoku. The logic-based game is based on combination number-placement with the overall goal of filling a 9×9 grid with digits so that each column, each row and each of the nine 3×3 sub-grids includes all of the numbers from 1 to 9, but don’t overlap. The trainee pack starts you out with a 4×4 grid so it’s easier to get into the game and see how it works with numbers 1 to 4. I think this was a very nice touch on the developer’s part.

There are a ton of custom graphics to choose from too whether it be the classic gray, felt or psychedelic tie dye grids plus many more. Within setup, there is also a quick tutorial on how to play.

Adding to the excitement, you can turn on puzzle timers to try and time yourself. It’s a nice add for those competing against themselves or passing it over to a friend to join in a bit of competition.

With over 1,200 unique puzzles (600 on iPad and 600 on iPhone) to choose from in varying degrees of difficulty, Sudoku Packs 2 HD for iPad (and iPhone) is one of the best iterations of the logic-based game we’ve seen. We highly recommend purchasing this one for both the novice and veteran Sudoku player.
