Looking for a few apps and mobile payment systems to turn your iPhone and or iPad into credit card swiping machines? You have a few options, including two of the more popular companies Square (iPad Square Register) and PayPal. Both are solid options.
Square, created by Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, utilizes a simple square dongle that plugs into your headphone jack. The device can be used to swipe Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover and is compatible with iOS and Android devices. There is no setup fee and the app is free to download and install. They charge just 2.75% per swipe for all major credit cards. There are no additional fees. Love it!
They also offer next-day deposits so all payments taken during business hours are almost always available in your bank account the next business day. Better yet, you can setup automatic deposits and get email confirmations when they’re made.
For those business owners who are looking to extend the possibilities there is Square Register, which gives you an iPad register to use. Again, it still charges 2.75 percent, but also helps you take credit card and cash payments, setup custom inventory and favorites, fast checkout and easy tipping, integrated loyalty programs, interactive web analytics and much more.
Another option is to use PayPal, an eBay company, who just unveiled their own mobile payment system for small businesses. It’s also a free app and utilized an encrypted small card reader, which gives merchants the ability to process payments. It charges just slightly lower as well as at 2.7 percent. They also allow checks to be processed free of charge and offer a business debit card for access to cash and 1 percent cash-back on eligible purchases.
“With PayPal Here, we are now able to serve as a one-stop shop for online, offline and multi-channel small businesses,” Marcus wrote. Merchants can download the PayPal Here merchant app, sign up, and start accepting payments immediately, and they will receive funds directly into their PayPal account regardless of whether the sale was online, mobile, or through PayPal Here, the company said.
Both Square and PayPal are solid options for any consumer or business owner and both come from highly trusted sources.
