I’m a big fan of new technology … but I think the rumors of the upcoming launch of the iPhone 5S having a biometric fingerprint reader are, well, false. But why do I think it won’t be there? The real question is why would it? Look at the last several iPhone iterations … see any major additional features beside case, processor and storage updates? Nope. See any sci-fi type security integrations besides pinlock? Nope.
It’s not that I don’t think Apple is capable of adding it in, it’s just that I don’t see the need for it. I wonder how many people actually use a pin to have to unlock their phone. Maybe I’m of the minority, but it’s annoying to me to have to enter those four digits. Of course, I have nothing to hide.
This is the reason I believe the iPhone 5C with several different color options has more potential of being unveiled in September. I’m looking forward to whatever Apple unveils, but I won’t be holding my breathe for a biometric fingerprint reader. Will you?
